The Rattler Cup

For many of us 40k is a community as much as a hobby

In an effort to broaden the community, I have reached out to other Tournament Organizers to create what we call the The Rattler Cup!

The Rattler Cup is:
  • An Arizona state Championship for 40k
  • Based on ITC rankings
  • Offered at no cost to the players or Tournament Organizer

How does it work?

  • The current ITC ranks are based the a player's top 4 scores from all ITC events they participate in.
  • So a player who gets out to 11 events will only be credited for their top 4 performances. In contrast, a Player who only makes it 4 games as an equal of chance of winning but has to be spectacular in those 4 appearances
  • For the Rattler Cup, winner will be determined by taking the top 3 performances in an Arizona ITC events plus the results of one at large event.
  • We want to reward those who represent our proud state on the national stage
  • If you don't make it to event outside of AZ, then we will use your 4 best in state scores
  • You must attend at least 2 ITC events to be eligible for the title, one of which must be in AZ
  • We are planning to have large championship event in early 2016 (prior to LVO) to cap off the 2015 season based on the top players

We will track the standings as Frontline Gaming post them them & update them here

The goal here is to unify and grow the tournament scene here locally

If you living out of state & want to try this in your local area, we salute you!
Hopefully this will catch on and we can create a true national championship

until then, roll dice, meet new people, have fun

What People Said

All those who attended were asked to provide some feedback on event

I want to take the time share what that feedback was & how we plan to use to improve the overall experience had my those who will attend the Scorched Earth Open 2016

On scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the highest) how would you rate the following

The Facility - overall score was a 4.0. Biggest complaint was we needed more signage directing people to the event. Easy fix and will do so for next year

The Food - overall score was a 4.1. Be curious to see what people would have preferred. Overall, in speaking with those who attended lunch was okay where dinner was awesome.

Playability of the Mission - overall scores was 4.4. Many people stated they were skeptical until playing the missions. There they saw the benefits of the changes we made. The supply drop rule, as expected, followed what we saw in play testing which was it was used only 20% of the time. When it was used, 80% was used to purchase a Sky fire Nexus

Changes we plan to play test
  • Addition of new Supply Drop option that allows some counters against Super Heavies (hint: look at the Warlord traits in Escalation)
  • Simplifying the scoring per round. For example, if you score 6 points on primary, 4 points on Secondary, and 1 point on Tertiary, you get (6+4+1) 11 points for the round. The goal here is create a little more separation among players who scored 2 wins or 3 wins as the tournament carried on as many rounds players simply scored "full points". This will also allow players who may take a loss to still climb back into contention by scoring higher point losses than those who just got shattered.
  • Of course any other changes we see in the meta over the next year, especially with the rapid release rate from GW
Look of the Terrain - Overall score was 3.3, which I thought was generous. I was completely embarrassed but that's what I get for poor time management.
I plan to launch a YouTube show that will show all the improvements that will be made over the next year. I have some great ideas and want to share them with the community. Look here for more details. Fans from the podcast have been asking for videos so timing worked out great

Playability of the Terrain - Overall score was a 4.1. Lots of positive feedback on this so we will keep the basic footprint & size of the elements consistent

Importance of being an ITC event - Overall score was a 3.5, but scores were extremely divided. It was either a huge importance (70%) or no importance (30%) to the player base. We plan to continue our relationship with the ITC next year.

Would you attend next year - Overall score was 4.9, which was super encouraging. We have already spoken with the venue to work out a date for next May.

On a related tangent, the community has asked if I were to run a fall event or another smaller event. Let me know if this would be of interest to you.

Did you have fun - overall score was a 4.8, and really the most important. Glad everyone enjoyed themselves.

If there are any other improvements you would like to see please post them here

More updates to come
